Private Handbuilding Workshops
2-5 people, 2 hours, from $150
Fridays 6:30p, Saturdays 10a or 2:30p

Handbuilding is simply making clay forms without the use of the pottery wheel. The possibilities are endless, and it's so much fun!

Beginner Handbuilding: Mandorla Vase

Working with slab construction, we’ll explore contour, depth, and volume to construct a 2-sided flower vase that mimics a wheel-thrown form–at least on the face of it! Referencing some classic contours to get you started, you’ll design a profile, then join the slabs to create a mandorla-shaped base and opening. The foreshortening of the form makes this the perfect vase for a sunny windowsill.

Beginner Handbuilding: Windchime

Unwind and dream of warmer weather while you turn a lump of clay into a bell through the ancient method of simple, rhythmic pinching.

In this workshops you'll create a series of pinch pots that resonate in form and surface design and consider how their arrangement and eventual stringing together will harness the spring winds in sound.

Beginner Handbuilding: Painter's Set

Create a set of custom paint palette, brush holder, and rinsing cup that are a work of art all on their own! You'll learn multiple handbuilding methods to create an inspiring set to accompany your other creative endeavors. Demonstrations will include coil and slab methods for creating the cup, using additive or subtractive methods to make spaces for paints, and multiple examples of how to turn a bit of clay into a place for multiple brushes.
