The Handbuilt Mug, 3 Ways - Intermediate
Thursdays, 1:30pm or 6:30pm

There’s something truly special about a handbuilt mug! Although I throw most of the forms I make, I found myself dissatisfied with my mugs until I started handbuilding them. This class is an opportunity for more experienced handbuilders to learn some of my favorite methods for crafting beautiful, functional mugs. Handbuilt mugs don’t have to be clunky or heavy—we’ll focus on the fine details that make a mug both enjoyable to hold and practical to use.

We’ll explore three different methods for handbuilding mugs, with one entire class session dedicated to creating handles, emphasizing thoughtful design that is as functional as it is unique. In a separate class, we will attach the handles and focus on finishing and decorating, followed by glazing your pieces in week six.

Caroline is an amazing teacher! She understands how to balance guidance with freedom, which allowed me to experiment with more complex techniques with her right there to offer insight when I needed it. No question was ever too small, and she took time to explain nuances in technique that made a big difference in the final piece. Her feedback was always delivered with patience, helping me see both the strengths in my work and areas for improvement. I left each class feeling motivated and more confident in my abilities. She is also the kindest person- I highly recommend her classes!
